This month, we get to hear from a composer whose music has powered some of the biggest titles in modern gaming: the INCREDIBLE J.D. Spears!
When I really sat down and looked through his body of work, I was blown away; not just by the scale of his projects or the popularity of his work, but by the sheer level of craftmanship and quality in the music itself.
For those who may not know J.D. yet, allow me to give him a proper introduction. He’s an award-winning composer best known for his work on some of the most universally beloved titles ever! We're talking games like League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and the cult hit Chivalry 2. His music has everything you'd want from an epic, sweeping videogame score: bold melodies, explosive rhythms, rich orchestrations, you name it! He's mastered his musical craft, and he's used that skill to help define the sound and emotional identity of some of gaming's most iconic moments!
Here's the crazy part — every epic orchestral moment you hear in those games is or was at some point a MIDI mockup; a track produced with virtual instruments!
And that’s exactly what this masterclass is about.
From Plastic to Pro: Shedding The MIDI Sound Forever is all about transforming your mock-ups and demos from sounding artificial and obviously-sampled into feeling alive, cinematic, and production-ready.
In this session, we're going to dive into the art of virtual orchestration, production polish, and demo craftsmanship. J.D. understands that, when you’re working on titles of this scale, your mockups can’t just be “good enough". They have to sell the vision, inspire confidence, survive intense scrutiny from developers, directors, and feel REAL. He's going to show us how he's managed to do that time and time again on some of the world's biggest games, and I personally cannot wait!
